This document provides a quick tutorial introduction to using the Los Alamos Genie system. Example images used in this tutorial have been provided in the distribution.
This tutorial covers:
The Aladdin graphical user interface. Aladdin is used to provide training data for Genie, and to launch and manage Genie runs.
Running Genie from the command line of a UNIX shell.
Viewing Genie's results in Aladdin.
Note: Before trying out this tutorial, please make sure you have set up your Genie installation paths correctly. The instructions in the appendix called Obtaining and installing Genie and associated tools, also tell you how to set up your environment to run Genie.
To start with, we will set up a directory to contain the tutorial, called /tmp/genie-tute. Note that in the following example shell commands, "PREFIX" refers to the location of the Genie software: on Solaris systems, the default location is PREFIX=/opt/isis, while on Redhat Linux systems, this default is PREFIX=/usr .
